CNC axis accuracy measurement is a service addressing questions about a specific axis: whether the axis reaches the position commanded by the CNC control, whether it returns to the same place when the direction changes and how large the backlash is. The result is a technical report with positioning and repeatability measurement results for the selected axes. We perform laser positioning measurement after agreeing the scope and availability — the scope depends on the machine, purpose, on-site conditions and available equipment.

When it is worth ordering

Typical indications: the part dimension “drifts” systematically in one direction, the dimensional difference depends on the approach direction to the point, after axis mechanics repair the part still does not fit within tolerance, or after the machine was moved the axes no longer work together as before. What the scope covers

  • measurement of positioning of selected linear axes over agreed sections,
  • assessment of positioning repeatability (approaches from both directions),
  • assessment of backlash and axis behaviour on direction change,
  • within the agreed scope — rotary axis measurements,
  • laser positioning measurement — after agreeing scope and availability.

Before measurement we qualify the scope: which axes, which sections, under what conditions the machine can operate during measurement.

What the scope does not cover

  • we do not perform compensation in the CNC control — any CNC error compensation is treated as a separate, agreed action,
  • we do not repair axis mechanics or adjust ball screws or guideways,
  • we do not issue calibration certificates — the measurement is not a formal ISO calibration,
  • we do not guarantee accuracy improvement after measurement — the report describes the measured condition.

How the process works

  1. Machine submission and description of symptoms via the form.
  2. Qualification of measurement scope: axes, sections, method.
  3. Machine preparation on site (warm-up, axis access, cleanliness of reference points).
  4. Measurements — following the agreed approach procedure.
  5. Technical report with results and interpretation.

What the client receives — technical report

The report contains for each measured axis: measurement conditions, positioning and repeatability results in units, backlash assessment and interpretation — what the results mean for machining accuracy and which direction of action (service, adjustment, further diagnostics) is worth considering.

Frequently asked questions

Does axis measurement require stopping production?

Yes — the machine must be available for measurements. The downtime depends on the number of axes and the qualified scope; we agree it before the visit.

Do you measure all axes at once?

It depends on the machine and purpose. It is often more sensible to measure precisely the axes indicated by the symptoms than formally all of them — the decision is made at the measurement scope qualification stage.

Will you set up the machine after measurement?

No — we measure and document the results. Adjustment and repair are the service’s responsibility; our report gives the service a concrete starting point.
